Did you know that an average person produced approximently 730 kg each year? So how does the japanese town Kamikatzu plan to become waste-free by 2020?
Since the Zero-waste program was implemented in Kamikatzu 2003, 80% of the town´s garbage gets recycled, reused or composted, according to the video above made by Seekers Stories.
The residents must wash, clean sort and then bring all the materials to the town´s recycle center where monitors make sure it´s done properly.
They separate their garbage into a whopping 34 categories, from cardboards to magazines. Signs on each of the bins tells consumers what their trash will be recycled into and how much that prosess can cost or earn the community.
The city also has a special shop where the residents can bring and take used items for free, and a factory where local women produced products out of discarded items.
The ulitmate goal is to make the town completely waste-free by 2020.
