Telenor – along with many partners around the world – is exploring ways to give value to society, using their own data. They call this activity Data for social good. Now they want to gather in Oslo in order to offer different perspectives and to map future possibilities for Big Data for Social Good.
Big Data is used for many purposes with several concerns, and the predominant view these days is the commercial aspect – that its about money.
But its about more than money at Telenor. For example, Harvard School of Public Health and Telenor recently released a study about how telecom data can greatly improve the prediction of the spread of a diseasein this case, Dengue fever in Pakistan.
“Data for social good” is truly an idea whose time has come
– its Big Data meets Social Responsibility + Action.
While the idea is now fermenting all over the globe – in academic quarters as well as in business and in civil society – the benefits envisioned are still mostly in the future. Todays global D4SG community is in a very dynamic phase, with many models for collaboration and data sharing being proposed and tried out.
Join them in investigating all the good big data can do for humans, societies and businesses.
